Drug and Alcohol Awareness

What is it about?

This course aims to raise your essential awareness around drugs and alcohol and your confidence in dealing with arising issues

What will I learn?

  • To gain an overview of commonly used and misused substances including effects, side effects and possible risks
  • To be able to effectively undertake informal screening for substances, applying a sound knowledge of signs of substance use with an understanding of the quality of personal interaction, particularly with young people
  • To gain an overview of local and national drug and alcohol resources and good practice considerations in signposting and referral
  • To apply theory to practice using case-studies and draw out good practice principles, incorporating local guidelines for supporting those with drug and alcohol issues

Who is it for?

Anyone who works with clients, patients, students, colleagues, members of the public where substance misuse is a factor
